This year, the Shoalhaven Invitation Racing Pigeon Club welcomes seven new members from Sussex Inlet, St Georges Basin, Culburra Beach, Greenwell Point and East Nowra/Worrigee.
The competition will be very strong with 19 members competing for four prizes weekly.
The club also competes against fanciers from Nowra and Ulladulla clubs on a federation level, with a weekly pointscore and combines races during the 21-week racing season.
This year, heading south, the birds are released weather permitting, on a Saturday morning to return to their owners/trainers lofts.
The pigeons are registered on a special timer as they enter the loft and average flying velocities are calculated to determine the winner at the clubrooms on a Saturday night.
Racing progresses week by week, down the coast into Victoria and culminates in the birds being released at Launceston in Tasmania on October 6.
