The students, along with wholefood master chefs, Adam and Roo Guthrie from Berry created healthy plant-based meals, which the children could pack and eat during the day.
The students enjoyed making banana smoothies and date balls made with cocoa and raisins rolled in sesame seeds.
Cambewarra Public School principal Susan Hilliar said the project was a much-needed step to tackle the problem of unhealthy eating and “peer-group pressure”.
“Kids find it difficult to understand when their taste palette is used to just sweet or salty,” she said.
Even though it is still in a trial phase, children and teachers were enthusiastically adopting a vegetable and fruit-enriched diet.
The project aims to educate children to not only develop a taste for beneficial food, but to gain skills they can continue at home.
Mr Guthrie said a non-pressured approach was essential when teaching children.
“Eat from the colour of the rainbow and you will see it will become a very healthy planet,” he said.
Weekly meal plans designed by Adam and Roo Guthrie can be accessed online at ifeelgood.com.au
They have been designed to help busy people eat simply and well.
More photos from this event will appear in Monday’s South Coast Register.
