The cold blustery westerly winds of last weekend were testament to that as they swept across our rivers, oceans and beaches making fishing conditions far from comfortable.
For those fishos wishing to fish the brown trout spawning run of Lake Eucambene, it is well and truly time to dust off the gear, repair those leaking waders from last year, pack the winter woolies and head for the hills as some good sized fish have already started moving upstream into the deeper holes and runs around the Denison camp area.
With about five weekends left before the close of the season, it is only going to become more busy as the it approaches.
Last year there were some fantastic fish caught up around the 15 pound mark, and this year a couple of fish around the 11 pound mark have been reported.
The Eucambene River is the spot to go for the trophy fish, but in recent years the crowds have made the experience not so fun.
There are fairly strict bag limits for these waters so make sure you adhere to them as breaking them can result in not only a hefty fine, but gear and even vehicle confiscation, which is just not worth it for a slimy trout or two.
The Shoalhaven River upstream from the Nowra Bridge has turned on some exciting bream action for several anglers.
The fish have been hunting the shallows around the front of the golf club and are being taken on small shallow diving minnows such as the Jackal Chubby shallow and the Atomic bream shad in the shallow pattern.
Reports on the estuary perch have been quite slow and I would be interested to hear if anybody has found them in large numbers as this time of year.
There has been some talk of some reasonable sized kingfish starting to show their hoodlum heads around the cliffs and shallows of Currarong.
Live squid or slimy mackerel are a must for the bigger fish and a downrigger definitely makes life easier with the bigger fish hanging a little deeper in the water column.
