Needing only one point, grade No.4 hosted Nowra in a match for the title. Despite conditions more suited to Antarctic expeditions than bowls, a healthy gallery was in attendance to cheer the teams on, albeit from the warm comforts of the club house.
Grade No. 6A played host to Bomaderry and having already secured a place in the grade No. 6 playoff, there was more than a few bowlers whose eyes kept straying across to the grade No. 4 fixture.
Sunday morning our grade No. 6 team travelled down to Huskisson to battle it out with St Georges Basin (6B) for the grade No. 6 pennant.
All competitors were very pleased to have much better weather for the playoff. It was great to see plenty of club members, particularly our grade No. 4 travel down and provide support and encouragement for the day. It was great to see grade No. 6 perform well and achieve another accomplishment for the club winning the grade No. 6 pennant.
Overall a fantastic weekend for the club with both grades in the men’s securing their respective pennants, matching the ladies win last fortnight for an Ex-Servo’s trifecta.
A very well done to all competitors, it is an accomplishment to be enormously proud of.
Wednesday saw a continuation of the major pairs championship, with three matches completed.
Joining our championship competitors on the green was 18 social bowlers enjoying a friendly roll. Major Pairs results being as follows;
Game one had J. O’Dell and P. Smith up against S. Hollington and J. Black.
It was Team Black with an early lead before Team Smith came back to be all even on the 15th end.
In the final stages it was anyone’s game as the lead oscillated back and forth before Team Smith claimed victory by a single shot 19 – 18.
Game two was M. Stevens and E. Lee taking on D. Goodger and B. Madge. Team Madge looked to continue their good form and grabbed the early lead, before Team Lee found consistency and secured a comfortable 28 – 13 win.
Game three had K. Taket and A. Rose competing against N. Schulz and T. McCormack.
Very much the underdogs, Team McCormack started well and remained competitive early before Team Rose powered away.
Winning 16 ends to five, Team Rose were too strong easily advancing with the final score 28 – 7.
Following all games, weekly prize winners were drawn as follows:
First M. Fernie, T. Smith and G. Hulbert
Second M. Stevens and E. Lee
Third K. Taket and A. Rose
Rink six was given a chance at the $150 Jackpot on offer.
It was John Black, keen to continue his birthday fortunes from last Sunday, who stepped up for a turn of the wheel.
With ample encouragement from those gathered John gave it every chance and nearly snared the prize. Better luck next time John.
Next week the jackpot on offer is $170.
Regards,
Tim.
