The Team Motul Suzuki rider won both motos in the second round of the series in Appin.
It was a good day for the Moss family, with Matt’s twin brother Jake taking his National Pump Monster Energy Kawasaki bike to back-to-back second placings to finish second outright.
In the opening MX1 race, reigning champion Moss again proved that he is the rider to beat in 2014, charging straight to the holeshot and dominating from start to finish.
Moss was never threatened taking all 35 points on offer in the race - finishing nearly eight seconds clear of his brother Jake in second.
Jake was impressive in the early stages of the race as he initially challenged for the lead, before doing enough to finish ahead of Gibbs in third, and Billy Mackenzie (CDR Yamaha) in fourth.
Moss has had plenty of success at the Appin track and was pleased to get another good result.
“I’ve always liked this track and always seem to go well here,” he said.
“They’ve done a great job with the track. Battling with Jake – I’ve been riding with him all week so we brought the battle into today.
“In the first race I didn’t feel the best and I rode a bit tight – when I spoke to Jake after he rode pretty tight too.
“I qualified first and then the Superpole didn’t really go to plan, and then in the second race we made some changes to suspension and it was a team effort on deciding what to do and we came out swinging.
“It felt really good in the last one - a bit tight having my brother right behind me and battling me the whole way, but I came home strong at the end which is a credit to my fitness and my training program with Luke Thwaites.”
The third round of nationals is being held in Wontagghi, Victoria on April 27and Moss said he is looking forward to getting back out there for the next couple of rounds.
“Jake will be looking to beat me, and I am looking forward to that sort of challenge. I’d be happy for him to beat me as long as we are battling and if this is anything to show this weekend it’s going to be a good season.
“Last year we were underprepared – I had a shoulder reco early in the season before the first round.
“This year the preparation has been great and we wanted to win coming in, so it’s easier leading the championship from the start instead of hunting it down.
“We’ve got some good guys trying to hunt for me now – I’m just happy with the Motul Pirelli Suzuki guys, the guys from Alpinestars, Bell Helmets, Scott goggles, and everyone that helps me – it’s been a good weekend and we’re looking forward to the next one.”
