The night was an enjoyable reflection of the Ex-Servicemen’s Cricket Club for 2013/14.
This season was again one that will be well remembered.
The on-field success was a true display of strength and determination from the players.
Overall club and team results were excellent and everyone involved is to be congratulated including players, coaches, supporters and all the hard working volunteers.
Two outstanding achievements that need to be individually mentioned is that second grade have completed four consecutive two-day premiership titles, and third grade have now completed three two-day premierships wins in as many years.
A rare feat was also achieved when all senior grade teams deservingly qualified to contest the grand final.
First grade’s season ended in disappointment, when, chasing a third straight premiership, the match was abandoned without a ball bowled.
Fourth grade were well performed all season but were unable to come away with the premiership win in the grand final.
Their achievements this season were a series of accomplishments.
Again in 2014 the club was more than pleased to participate in a McGrath Foundation Pink Stumps Day, with over $5500 raised.
The hard working sub-committee led by Rachael Croese have excelled in all ways possible.
It was great to see the annual sea of pink on Hayden Drexel Oval.
The attendance at the senior presentation was outstanding and it was great to see many life members, sponsors and special guests join the club for the end of season celebration.
A list of major award winners were:
First grade player of the year – Mat Ganderton
Second grade player of the year – Dean Trost
Third grade player of the year – Shawn Higgins
Fourth grade player of the year – Barry Cumberland
Rookie of the year – Kurt Regan
Training award – Chris Bramley
Achiever award – Lain Beckett
Club person of the year – Craig Howsan
Barry Cruickshank’s memorial – Shawn Higgins
Paul Meakins, in his first year as president, was acknowledged for his strong leadership and was thanked for providing direction for the club.
His thorough understanding of the game and professional leadership qualities were more than appreciated by all club members.
The club’s success would not have been possible without his detailed planning and organisation.
Meakins was also well supported by his executive committee members John Wright, Craig Howsan, Katrina Morris, Vincent Morris, Daniel Gleeson, Shane Halliday and George Dickie.
The cricket club membership thanks you all for completing the various tasks which keep the cricket club running.
The senior players also thanked their respective captains in the senior grade teams; Daniel Gleeson, David Sloane, Shawn Higgins and Craig Howsan.
Everyone in the club would agree that your job is not easy.
Everyone appreciates your continued commitment to your side.
Every side was led honourably and your contribution to maintaining a positive balance is greatly appreciated.
