Shoalhaven City Council Mayor, Joanna Gash, announced a trial of extended winter times for dog off leash access areas from May 1 to September 30.
Dog off leash access times during the trial period will be in operation from 3pm to 10am daily.
Three beaches have been identified for the trial: Huskisson Beach, Nelson Beach at Vincentia and Culburra Beach. Signs have been placed to reflect the changes at these locations.
The change is in response to a Dog Access Areas Policy review in 2013.
An on-line survey received 699 responses, 103 of which requested an increase in off leash times.
“Many highlighted that during the winter months, the beaches are used less and it is often dark and cold during off leash times,” Cr Gash said.
Council will be conducting community consultation about the trial from April 23.
A feedback form can be found during the trial period at www.shoalhaven.nsw.gov.au.
