Butfield scored 157 including 12 fours and four sixes on Saturday, contributing 63 per cent of his team’s total of 250.
He followed it up next day with 45 not out before the opposition conceded that it had no chance of changing its fortunes.
Remarkably a year ago, Andrew Gardiner (Ulladulla United Blues) scored 157 and 45 not out against Bomaderry, so this pair share the records for highest individual score and aggregate of runs for a fourth grade grand final.
After twice being out for 142
during the season, Butfield finally broke through for a score over 150 which beat the club record of 144 made by Neil Leishman against Central Districts in 2006-07.
Butfield is the first Nowra fourth grade batsman to hit 10 sixes in an innings; and he draws level with Glenn Midson who previously had three centuries to his credit in this division.
Butfield took his season’s aggregate to 711 runs from 13 games in fourths, and that beat another club record – 610 made by Gordon McDonald in another premiership year, 2008-09.
It places him fifth on the association’s all-time list, the benchmark of 806 runs having been set by John Humphries in the second season of fourth grade, 1982-83.
