This tournament was also a selection for the Australian Titles and attracted competitors from all over Australia and New Zealand.
Tinka Easton from Berry won the young women’s U52 kilogram division, then on the same day won the women’s U52 kilogram division.
This was Easton’s 12th international gold medal, not including the gold medals she won at the Youth Olympics, Oceania Championships and the Ganesa Cup, which brings her total to 15 gold international medals.
Shoalhaven Heads Bushido Judo Club coach Bruce Fagan said in 18 years the club has been running, he had never had a competitor as successful as Easton.
“Tinka continues to keep herself motivated about her fitness by training with as much judo as possible. There has never been anyone in judo on the South Coast that has ever achieved in judo what Tinka has,” he said.
Dario Simic from Kiama fought in only his fourth international tournament and finished in third place for the bronze medal.
“Dario trains very hard, is very conscientious, and has only been learning judo just over 12 months. He always listens to coach Darren Fagan,” said Bruce Fagan.
“Dario is improving all the time and is prepared to put in the hard yards to achieve which he will eventually do.”
Anyone interested in learning judo can call 4448 8494 or call at Shoalhaven Heads Community Centre at Shoalhaven Heads between 5.30pm and 7.30pm on a Tuesday or Wednesday evening.
