The earlier races of the day were only a small obstacle, with both girls managing to progress through to the semi-finals without losing a heat.
With 18 girls from around NSW and ACT on the start list, Chelsea started in 14th position and despite a small slip at start gate, went to the top of the leader board in 38.6 seconds with a sizzling finish.
Of the three riders to start after Chelsea’s ride only Natasha could better that time and then by only that very slim margin.
Natasha rode 38.3 seconds to win the gold medal with Chelsea taking the silver.
Natasha and Chelsea had also won the NSW Junior U17 girls 500 metre team sprint championship in December.
Following these results both girls have been named in the Cycling NSW team to contest the Australian Junior Track Championships later this month.
