SHOALHAVEN Police have praised the behaviour of local Australia Day revellers, saying it was one of the quietest celebrations the area has seen for many years.

Inspector John Behrendt said behaviour in the region was very good.
“In general everyone was well behaved, we didn’t have any incidents,” he said.
“It was one of the quietest Australia Days we have had for a long time and I congratulate the public on its demeanour.”
Meanwhile, across NSW police issued 3445 speeding infringement notices during the Australia Day long weekend, a 37 per cent increase compared to the same period last year.
Three people lost their lives on NSW roads during the long weekend – at Woodstock near Cowra, Barrengarry and Casino.
These deaths take the state’s road toll for 2014 to 31.
