Ex-Servicemens/Bomaderry celebrated a hard fought win over North Nowra-Cambewarra Maroons at Drexel Park, where both teams showed plenty of depth with the bat and ball.
Maroons won the toss and elected to bat first.
After the top order got off to a slow start, Maroons’ Tim Abbot picked up the pace in his six over at the crease, hitting five boundaries for 28 runs and to top score for his team.
Lucas Zerafa (18) and Micah Edwards (13) rounded out the Maroons’ innings, with Ex-Servos to chase down 127 for the win.
Best with the leather for Ex-Servos was Ben Rowland (1/13) and Erik James (1/14).
Ex-Servos wasted no time establishing themselves as a force to be reckoned with thanks to opening batsmen Kyden Booth and Ben Rowland.
Booth hit four boundaries on his way to 30 runs, with Rowland making a respectable 12 runs.
Sam Parkinson (19) and Tim Hopkins (11) came in at numbers three and four and followed precedent.
Hopkins stunned the crowd when he hit a six in his third over, his first boundary of the year.
Top scores by Freya Edwards-Villatta (10) and Jack Lonesborough (15) took Ex-Servos to 159 runs, 32 runs clear of the win.
Maroons’ bowlers showed great form with Will McDonald taking 3/37 off four overs.
Over at Bernie Regan, Ulladulla won the toss and decided to bat first in their game against North Nowra-Cambewarra Blues.
Reliable hard hitter Drew Ramsden (19) top scored for Ulladulla, with Jay Ramsden (13), Riley Bowman (11) and Darcey Hayter (11) also aptly assisting in their team’s 113-run total.
Marley Arthur (2/17) and Will Tinker (2/19) were best with the ball for the Blues.
The Blues knew they had a big total ahead of them and took to the challenge from the first ball.
The top order of Levi Webber (12), Brodie Arkinstall (14) and Marley Arthur (12) had the Ulladulla bowlers worried, and the finish was a nail biter when Arthur returned to bat again, this time making 22 runs.
But Ulladulla’s bowlers were on fire with Coopwer Jones (2/9), Riley Bowman (2/6), Ryan Gilkes (1/11), Darcey Hayter (1/10) and Casey Dorell (1/11) all taking wickets and restricting the Blues to 103, with Ulladulla celebrating the win by 10 runs.
Over at Surfside Batemans Bay continued to show their strength in the competition after they defeated Nowra by 79 runs.
