Berry-Shoalhaven Heads v Batemans Bay at Berry Sporting Complex
BERRY-SHOALHAVEN HEADS have taken first innings pointsin their match against Batemans Bay at the Berry Sporting Complex on Saturday.
Berry claimed the points on the first day of the match, dismissing the visitors for 71 and then running down the total to end the day’s play at 2/152, and came within a whisker of an outright win on Saturday.
Resuming their innings, Berry’s Glenn Brandon had no trouble navigating the nervous 90s and chalked up his first century of the season before being dismissed on 108 with Berry at 3/174.
The visitors then struck again quickly, removing Nathan Thomas on 1, leaving Berry at 4/176.
Chris McCarron then fell on 3, with Berry at 5/199 before some determined batting from their lower order pushed their total to 7/261 declared.
Brad Carey added 37 before holing out, Dale Lovatt and Blygh Herron remained at the crease on 18 and 22 not out respectively as Berry closed their innings after just 45 overs.
After knocking the Bay over cheaply in the first innings, Berry had every right to be confident of achieving an outright win but fell just short after having the visitors 9/57 after 37.4 overs.
Berry’s bowlers did all they could to get their side over the line, with Chris McCarron and Phil Dell’Orefice returning figures that would make anybody jealous.
Dell’Orefice came away from his 10 overs with 5/7, including four maidens.
From 8.4 overs, McCarron produced an equally impressive 4/3 with six maidens.
