A morning tea was held at the school for students who scored an ATAR over 80 in their HSC to celebrate with very happy family members and teachers on Thursday.
Graduate and dux of the school Alexis Weaver topped this year’s results at St John’s with a 99.45 ATAR.
Alexis received a band six in English (advanced and extension one), French, mathematics, music and religious studies.
She said her trick to achieve such high results was finding a balance between study and relaxation.
“You have to enjoy what you’re doing and then the study comes naturally,” Alexis said.
“I’m really excited for the future. This feels like a dream. It’s very overwhelming.
“I plan on having a rest before the start of university, but I am really excited for it,” she said.
Alexis said she hoped to be accepted into the University of Sydney to study a bachelor of music and pursue composition.
Yvette Gilfillan, who followed closely behind with an ATAR of 99.2, said she would like to be accepted in the University of Wollongong to study a creative writing degree.
“I plan to get straight into my studies at university,” Yvette said.
“I didn’t think it was possible.
“I think the secret is consistent effort. I did a lot of work in the holidays as well.”
Yvette received a band six in ancient history, English (advanced and extension one and two), modern history, history extension one and religious studies.
She said she would love to work in a magazine publication and her dream is to one day publish her own book.
