BOATING enthusiasts in the Shoalhaven had the chance to upgrade their old lifejackets last weekend when the state’s first roving lifejacket stand came to the region at the start of its tour of NSW.

The Old 4 New lifejacket van was at Greys Beach in Nowra on Saturday.
The van is the first of its kind in the country and is getting new lifejackets to the water as boaters are about to head out for a day.
The aim of the initiative is to increase awareness of new-generation lifejackets that can be worn in comfort all day.
It also gave people across the South Coast the opportunity to exchange their old lifejackets and get a discount off new ones.
South Coast MP Shelley Hancock said by getting to
popular boating locations all around the state, such as the South Coast, representatives would be talking directly to the boating community.
“Experienced staff chat with the boating public about the lifejacket upgrade offer and advise boaters on what type of lifejacket might suit them,” Mrs Hancock said.
“Lifejackets, like a lot of other products have improved and evolved over time.
“If you compare the old big and bulky lifejackets with our modern-day, slimline products, you’ll see how much they’ve advanced and are now comfortable to wear during any type of on-water activity.”
Over the past decade, nine out of 10 people who drowned while boating weren’t wearing a lifejacket.
Lifejackets must be worn in craft under 4.8m at night, offshore, on alpine waters or when alone; and by anyone under the age of 12 years.
