Built about 120 years ago, the wooden bridge was used as a shunting line because of limited operating space in the railway station yard. It had not been used for many years.
The structure had fallen into disrepair, with one section of the bridge in the middle of the creek collapsing and another near Bolong Road developing a pronounced lean.
RailCorp contractors carried out survey work before starting demolition of the timber structure.
Work crews overcame torrential rain and flooding to remove the superstructure.
The bridge was taken down one plank at a time by excavators fitted with special jaws operating from barges in the creek.
It took a couple of weeks as the bridge was taken apart piece by piece.
RailCorp had planned to carry out the demolition work last year, but it had to be postponed because of wet conditions on farmland on the southern bank of the creek.
The recent flooding in the area provided a few anxious moments as the creek and Bolong Road in front of Hanlon Windows flooded.
The barges had to be secured as the creek rose rapidly.
Further work remains to be done on site including rehabilitation, and removal of the timber, site sheds and security fencing.
