A motion tabled at the CBD Action meeting on April 8 recommended that the general manager investigate the borrowing capacity of council, the sale of surplus council assets and the commercial revenue possibilities in order to develop a multi-storey car park.
The motion also recommended a multi-storey car park in the Nowra CBD be included in council’s long term financial plan.
The motion was carried.
Council’s Nowra Action Committee instructed council to include a multi-storey car park in the Council’s Ten Year Financial Plan.
Nowra Action Committee spokesman Lance Sewell said it was a welcome development.
“The one thing that must not happen now is that council bury this very positive decision under a load of 10-year financial plan paperwork.
“Parking in Nowra, where everyone in Shoalhaven needs to park on a regular basis, is chaotic.
“Council has been delaying this process since 1974 when it was first recognised that a multi-storey car park was essential to the future of Nowra as a leading regional city,” Mr Sewell said.
