At 6.30am a helicopter delivered the Melbourne Cup and its entourage to the Archer Raceway in readiness for today’s events.
Thanks to Nowra’s considerable historic link to the Melbourne Cup (see page 115) the town was chosen as one of a host of locations that the Victoria Racing Club would visit as part of the 2010 Emirates Melbourne Cup Tour, celebrating the 150th anniversary of the race that stops the nation.
Throughout the day the cup will travel to Lyndhurst Children’s Centre, Chesalon Nursing Home, the Nowra CBD, Terara Public School, McDonalds South Nowra and the Australian Hotel before an official dinner at the Boatshed Restaurant.
Owners Nigel and Tracey Hain, who only took over the restaurant in February, said they were pleased to have been asked to host the event.
“It’s great that the Turf Club wants to show off what Nowra has to offer on the food scene,” Mr Hain said.
