The Oasis Takeaway in Junction Street Nowra has been in operation for 38 years. The business was started by George and Wilhelmina (Willy) Economos in 1980. They ran the business with their two sons, Jimmy and Peter. Later they were joined by their two younger children Matina and Leo, who now own the business together.
The Oasis team has worked hard to build a strong reputation for their quick and friendly service, cleanliness and the freshness of the food they serve.
They put their success down to changing with the times in the way people eat. When the Oasis first started it was the traditional takeaway, serving fish and chips, hamburgers and all the deep fried goodies many of us grew up with.
Shoalhaven Originals is sponsored by the following businesses. Click the link to learn more:
George and Willy saw the need for a healthy alternative, so a refit in the 1990s included a salad and sandwich selection. As this side of the business grew in popularity, it soon called for another fit-out so they could offer the largest selection of sandwiches, rolls and wraps in the Shoalhaven. These are all made at the time of ordering, not pre-packed.
Matina and Leo have two of the original employees who worked with their parents still on staff: Colleen Little for over 25 years and James Economos, for the past eight years.
They also employ two newer team members, Kerry and Aimee. Leo and Matina both look forward to carrying on the family business and being part of a great community for many years to come.
