A trio if community minded organisations, made up of Boomerang Bags, Plastic Pollution Solutions and Seaside Scavenge, its focus is on reducing waste and plastic pollution with education, grassroots action and nurturing ongoing initiatives in the community.
The trio will spread their message in the Shoalhaven by hosting a number of events from February 19 to 25.
A range of family friendly events will be held, supported by Shoalhaven City Council and Shoalhaven Transition.
Judy Deane from Shoalhaven Transition said its hoped the visit will stick with people.
“We are very excited to have the Travelling trash Troupe in the Bay and Basin and are confident that our community will reap long-term benefits in reduced litter, waste and single-use plastic and increase awareness around sustainability,” she said.
The following events will be held:
- February 19 | 7pm - “Blue” film screening at Huskisson Pictures with Q & A discussion panel and a short talk by key people including mayor Amanda Findley. Tickets , $15, available at Huskisson Pictures.
- February 19-23 | Educational sessions in multiple Bay and Basin schools on the scale, causes, impacts and solutions to the growing issue of plastic pollution.
- February 24 | 10am-2pm - Seaside Scavenge and sustainability fair at White Sands Park Huskisson.
- February 25 | 10am-1pm – Boomerang Bags Regional Gathering at Huskisson Community Centre. Participants to register here.
Boomerang Bags was founded by Tania Potts and Jordyn De Boer from Burleigh Heads, Queensland.
In only four years, Boomerang Bags has spread to more than 500 communities in 15 countries.There are five Boomerang Bags groups in the Shoalhaven.
Local Boomerang Bags groups will facilitate a sewing bee at the Seaside Scavenge for interested community members.
Plastic Pollution Solutions (PPS) was founded in Sydney three years ago by Anthony Hill and has held more than 500 educational events and activities for schools, community groups, businesses and councils on the eastern seaboard.
PPS has already held educational sessions at 19 schools in the Shoalhaven.
Anna Jane (AJ) Linke founded Seaside Scavenge in Sydney and has now held countless events around Australia over the last two years.
Seaside Scavenge is a family friendly event that turns litter into a currency which can be used to buy pre-loved clothes, goods and more donated by the local community.
There will be live music, prize giveaways from local businesses and upcycling workshops.
