The 2016 Terara Country Music Campout has gone down as the biggest event yet with more than 300 caravans converging on Owen and Thelma Ison’s property at Terara.
The three-day campout attracted good crowds, with an estimated 750 people watching the country artists perform at the height of the weekend on Saturday evening.
As well as providing a weekend of entertainment, which attracts people from all around the country, the event also raises money for local charities.
This year Team Shoalhaven supporting the Starlight Foundation, Life Without Barriers, Terara Public School, Noah’s Ark and local woman Mardi Sweeney have been beneficiaries of the campout.
They were presented with with donations during the week by campout organisers Owen and Thelma Ison and Tracey Cotterill.
“More than $18,000 has been raised for and presented to the local groups we support,” Mr Ison said.
“This year’s event, which was our fifth, was superb and I can only see it getting bigger and better.
“Next year we are aiming for 400 vans.”
It is also understood night time entertainment will be staged Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings.
“It costs a lot to get all the artists here to perform and we couldn’t do without some great local support,” Mr Ison said.
“We must thank Chapman’s Caravans, East Nowra Butchery, Cookes Tyre Service, Ray White Real Estate, Murphy Family Funerals, Wray Owen Funeral Directors, Dave Hill Marine, Ison and Co and Suez. That support and that of the locals who came along was superb and made the event the success it was.”
Mr Ison’s daughter, Tracey Cotterill, who organised the various raffles over the weekend also thanked Barbeques Galore, Kmart, Harvey Norman, The Links Restaurant Worrigee Sports Club and Damarrose Cafe for their support.
Next year’s event will be split over the last weekend of March and the first weekend of April.
