Take a look back in time with the photos the South Coast Register has taken of the Terara Country Music Festival over the years.
THE record has been broken for another year in a row as crowds of country music lovers roll into town this weekend.
A sea of about 300 caravans and over 600 people travelled from all over Australia to be part of what has become Terara’s main event of the year, the annual 2016 Terara Country Music Festival.
It takes property owners Owen Ison and his wife Thelma all year to prepare for the event, but they said they wouldn’t have it any other way.
“We get a lot of good help from a lot of people to pull it all together,” Mr Ison said.
Mr Ison said they were up by nearly 100 caravans this year, with country music fans and musicians rolling into town from as far as Cairns, Tamworth, Rockhampton, Wagga Wagga and Bega.
“You name it. They’ve come from all over the place,” he said.
Mr and Mrs Ison said they hoped to continue attracting people year after year to the quiet village town to enjoy country music and entertainment for years to come.
“We like listening to people sing music and have a good time,” Mr Ison said.
The energy was evident as you walked through the crowd who had comfortably set up their camping chairs under the awning that faced the stage.
The tunes of country singers rang through the crowd and into the grassy fields beyond.
One visitor John Adams and his brother Colin had travelled from Newcastle and beyond to be at the Terara festival.
“You know what the best thing is about this concert? It’s all about country music,” Mr Adams said.
“It’s my third year coming here and I’ll keep coming back. It’s great.”
Mr Adams said great community events like the Terara Country Music Festival which generate interest from around Australia should be encouraged and he hoped to visit Terara and enjoy the music for years to come.
Visitors to the music festival are expected to leave on Sunday and Monday and preparations for the next event will no doubt start again shortly after the last country music lover heads home.
