The two sides sat at the top of the ladder when the 2021 season was cancelled, and many had predicted the two sides would have plenty to say about who decides the premiership come September.
All the points were found in the second half with the Lions getting to grips with a heavy track early in the piece.

It was the visitors who opened the scoring, making the most of field position gifted to them by consecutive penalties.
After the Lions' goal line defence held out Kyle Stone, Jamberoo five-eighth Mark Asquith popped an offload for fill in fullback Nathan Gallestegui to dive over. Kurt Fields's conversion attempt was waved away and the visitors led 4-0 after seven minutes.
The Jamberoo lead would be short lived however, as the Lions hit back through their own custodian, Toby Gumley-Quine.
Lions' half Rixon Russell was given too much time on the fifth tackle and his pin-point kick came down on the try line and Gumley-Quine cleaned up the bouncing ball and dived over in the corner to level the scores.
The Lions would then grab the lead soon after, with Russell the architect of their next four-pointer as well.
Camped on the Jamberoo line, Russell turned a rampaging Kayne Brennan under and the Gerringong centre crashed over on the left.
Jake Taylor converted and the Lions led 10-4 after 20 minutes.
The points were flowing and former Superoo back rower Corey Grigg piled on when he charged onto a ball from a sweeping Gumley-Quine to slam the ball down past the chalk for his first try for the tri-colours.
Taylor added another conversion and the Lions led 16-4 at the half hour mark.
While the Lions seemed to adapt to the wet conditions in the first half, it was a different story for Jamberoo, who were dealt a blow by some poor handling in the wet conditions.
The Lions continued to make the most of their chances and extend their lead just before the half-time siren. Isaac Russell shimmied and shrugged his way through some lethargic Jamberoo defence and sent Lions' skipper Nathan Ford over to the right of the posts.
Taylor added his third conversion and the Lions led 22-4.
The impact of an interrupted pre-season and greasy conditions was evident in the second half, with both sides guilty of poor handling.
Chances were there for both sides, but neither could capitalise. Field came agonisingly close for the visitors before Isaac Russell pinched the ball from him, while Ford did the same for the Lions only to be called back for an error in the play the ball.
With 15 minutes to go, the Lions looked to have landed the killer blow through Rixon Russell, but the Lions' half was called back for an obstruction in the lead up.
The Superoos had a late chance of their own when Simon Maslanka and James Gilmore made metres on the left edge, but the Lions' scramble shut down any chance the visitors had.
The Lions will take plenty of confidence from the win as they head into next week's clash with Milton-Ulladulla, while the Superoos will look to re-group before facing first-up winners, Stingrays of Shellharbour.
