So Shaun decided now is the time to step up and turn his dream of being a professional singer into reality.
The Kings Point resident will appear on The Voice Australia which started yesterday [Monday April 18] on Channel 7 and 7plus.
Shaun appears tonight [Tuesday April 19] in episode two.
His number one fans - children Lennon, Lola, Daisy and Tommy, wife Kristy, mum Sharon and sister Brooke Kerr will all be watching and cheering him on.
Brooke had been "egging him" on to take part in The Voice for years.
He brushed off the thought until now.
"I was having smoko a while back at work and thought 'stuff it, I will give it a go'," he said.
The singer-songwriter sent off an audition and waited.
"It was months before I heard anything back," he said.
By then he had started a new job as a carpenter and originally declined the offer to take part in another step in the process that would see him performing in front of those famous chairs.
The producers called him, they loved the audition he sent up and they urged him to reconsider and he did.
He will be singing Whipping Post, a song by The Allman Brothers Band, which he has been rehearsing for some time now.
"I am glad they gave me that song - it's right up my alley," he said.
His musical influences are from the blues/roots genre.
He has been performing for decades and his band Tall Shaun & The Resolution Blues play all up and down the coast.
His dream is to make a living as a performer and he sees The Voice as a stepping stone to get his name and his band's name out there and well known.
