Gilmore MP Fiona Phillips and Shadow Minister for Communications, Michelle Rowland, were in Termeil on Wednesday, April 6, to make the official announcement a week after a similar plan was revealed in the national budget.
A Labor spokesperson said the party would also expand full fibre access to 45,000 homes and business across the Gilmore Electorate if they won the upcoming Federal Election.
"This transformational plan will see Labor invest $3.5m to address mobile black spots along the Princes Highway, particularly from Batemans Bay to Ulladulla which is notorious for poor reception," they said.
"A further $3m would be invested to improve mobile coverage in communities with severe coverage issues like Jamberoo, Lilli Pilli, Worrigee and Kangaroo Valley.
"We would also expand full-fibre NBN to an estimated 45,000 homes and business in Gilmore currently stranded on copper wiring. Fibre to the Premises technology can deliver speeds up to fourteen times faster than copper, with far fewer dropouts and more reliable connectivity."
Gilmore MP Fiona Phillips said the announcement was important as "working and learning from home is the new normal".
"The 2019-20 bushfires made it very clear that quality mobile coverage and high-speed internet is critical for our communities during disasters," she said.
"I have been working with people across the South Coast through our mobile blackspot survey, and with Telstra to improve mobile coverage across the electorate.
"This includes the construction of the new Clyde Mountain Mobile Tower, improved battery back ups at mobile phone towers, and adding my support to Telstra's submission to the federal government to fix blackspots along the Princes Highway.
"I've also been calling for more Fibre to the Premises so that households and businesses can get the high-speed internet they deserve."
Shadow Minister for Communications, Michelle Rowland, said "reliable mobile coverage and internet is vital for our quality of life, productivity and safety".
"An Albanese Labor Government is committed to building a better future by investing to boost the reliability and speed of our digital connectivity," she said.
"Our connectivity plan for Gilmore will benefit more than 45,000 homes and businesses, as well as commuters on the Princes Highway."
