The body of a woman located by police in flood waters on the state's north coast is believed to be that of Shoalhaven aged care nurse Alina Brakel.

The body is yet to be formally identified.
Following information from a member of the public the body was located in floodwaters near the intersection of Alexandra Parade and Tweed Street, North Lismore shortly before 7pm Thursday.
The search for Ms Brakel began about 9.50pm on Tuesday after the 55-year-old woman was reported missing at Monaltrie, approximately 5km south of Lismore.
Officers were informed that the woman had left Tullera (approximately 10km north of Lismore) on the same day and failed to arrive at her intended destination.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the woman's death is underway and a report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
The 2017 white Holden Captiva, with NSW registration YHS 51F, that the woman was travelling in has not yet been located.
Police are urging anyone who locates this vehicle to immediately contact Richmond Police District or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
