Harry Kielly's film Perspective was selected to be featured in the 'FlickerUp' youth film category.
It outlines the mental struggle associated with graduating school in a satiric way and includes Kangaroo Valley resident Paige Baker as the protagonist.
"I wanted my film Perspective to portray the mental strain that many people my age feel when they finish school," said Harry.
"I hope that by creating a satire, gently poking fun at peer group, school and community pressure, people might change their perspective and show more kindness and understanding towards a struggling school leaver, or anyone who is trying to find their path in life.
"I also wanted to encourage other kids, who didn't find their own voice at school, to stick to what they believe in - a lot can change in a year."
Local musicians Ross Longfield and Max Kielly composed and recorded the film's soundtrack.
Interested in the art of filmmaking for years, Harry took part in the Southland Creative Inc. My Home Film mentoring program early last year and said it was a "lifechanging experience".
The program, funded by Screenrights Australia, enabled the Southland Creative Inc. team to mentor ten South Coast school students and young adults in the art of filmmaking.
"It was a great privilege to be encouraged and supported by such skilful, generous people," said Harry.
"We were encouraged to write, produce and direct our own short film, reflecting our local area or an issue that meant something to us.
"It was amazing to meet like-minded-people, both my age, and seasoned professionals."
Flickerfest is Australia's premier short film festival, which has been showcasing the best short films for 31 years.
This year's festival attracted over 3150 entries, with only selected.
Flickerfest is screening from January 21 to 30, with 29 sessions at the outdoor cinema and Spiegeltent at Bondi Beach, Sydney.
