However, when they were faced with the muggy conditions at the Callala Beach Triathlon on Saturday, they rose to the challenge, winning the women's team event and even beating the mixed and men's teams.
The day presented calm waters for a smooth 1.5km swim around the rectangular course for Kirrilee Bracht.
Kristen Wilson followed, completing a 40km cycle in the increasing heat, and the finishing leg was run by Kellyanne Hinchcliffe completing the 10km course in a time of 53 minutes.
The three women have competed together at previous events but this was their first time back together after Kristen was involved in a serious car accident in 2017 and Kirrilee finished treatment for breast cancer in October this year.
The trio finished the event in a total time of 2:51:11 winning the women's team event, as well as successfully completing the race faster than the mixed and the men's teams.
All three appreciated the chance to be involved in the atmosphere of the day after so many competitive events have been cancelled over the past two years due to the restrictions caused by the pandemic.
And with their new perspectives on the preciousness of life, it was an opportunity to enjoy each others company whilst doing the things that they love to do.
