At this stage on Sunday morning, 10am, we're at more than 37 per cent of votes counted and the race for the top job sees incumbent Greens Mayor Amanda Findley in the lead with 34.26 per cent votes.
Lead challenger and former Shoalhaven Mayor Paul Green has taken 27.18 per cent of votes so far.
As for the mayoral candidates part of the Independents group, councillor and former mayor Greg Watson has taken 14.44 per cent of votes, councillor Patricia White has taken 9.80 per cent and councillor Mark Kitchener has 7.34 per cent.
Councillor Nina Digiglio has 6.98 per cent.
Pre-poll and postal votes are yet to be counted.
Cr Findley said residents may be waiting a week for results due and the sentiments were shared by Mr Green.
"We will not have an idea until the end of next week at minimum because pre-polling doesn't get counted until Monday," she told the South Coast Register.
"And if there's almost one third of votes that have been through on pre-poll then it's going to be a long time counting."
There are 82,981 enrolled to vote in the Shoalhaven.
More to come.
