New movies
Roxy Cinema Complex Nowra, from December
There are lots of movies that are going to be released at the cinema in December and January. The musical drama Dear Evan Hensen is a film about friendship and mental health that is out on December 9, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City will also be out on the same day. Marvel's much-anticipated movie Spiderman: No Way Home is out on December 16 and all of the animals are back for Sing 2 on Boxing Day. Stephen Spielberg's adaptation of West Side Story and The Matrix Resurrections are also out on December 26. A very famous red dog will be hitting our screens with Clifford the Big Red Dog on December 30.
We enter 2022 with Lady Gaga and Adam Driver in House of Gucci and Ghostbusters Afterlife on New Year's Day. The Addams Family, The Kings Man and The 355 will be released on January 6. King Richard starring Will Smith, Scream 5, Belfast and the animation Fireheart will be out on January 13. Kristen Stewart's performance as Princess Diana in Spencer can be seen on Janaury 20, along with Nightmare Alley and Morbius on the same day. Queen Bees, The Black Phone and The Eyes of Tammy Faye will be released on January 27.
Surfers in focus
Nowra Regional Art Gallery until January 29
This summer Shoalhaven Regional Gallery transforms into a celebration of surfing. Plan a visit anytime to January 29 for a fascinating look at this majestic sport through the eyes of different artists. In more than 40 portraits of Australian surfing identities, shot between 1997 and 1999, award winning photographer Ashley Jones-Evans has created a pantheon of Sea Gods; a collection of heroes and trailblazers who made Australian surfing history. The powerful photographs of surfers - both those who have disappeared from history books and those who inspired recent generations -
The Reef, a collaboration between Richard Tognetti - Concert Master for the Australian Chamber Orchestra,and a collection of artists, is an extraordinary merging of music and film, delving into the links between surfing, the ocean, landscape and music.
For the kids, there's a series of exciting school holiday workshops planned around these exhibitions. From Monday, January 10 to Wednesday, January 12, children aged 3 to 18 can paint the perfect break, decorate a beach ball, create an octopus's garden and so much more! Currarong's monthly walking art trail provides an opportunity to explore the village and meet participating artists and enjoy their creations. Join artists in their homes, studios and workspaces. Benji brings coastal vibes
Tilba, December 4
Since their recent formation, Benji and the Saltwater Sound System have matured quickly after being exposed to audiences at a snowballing number of live shows and high profile festivals slots. Benji and the SSS fuse pacific flavours with the raw sounds of the Australian East Coast. Add to this beautifully poignant lyrics and skillfully blurred genres and you have a sonic snapshot of the current South Coast NSW coastal lifestyle. Weekend market
Broulee, Ulladulla and Nowra
Art on the Path, a sustainable market where local artists and makers showcase their products, will be held on Coronation Drive, Broulee, December 12. You can discover a variety of stalls ranging from crafts, produce and specialty stalls at the Ulladulla Harbour Markets on Wason Street. The market on December 12 is run by a group of dedicated volunteers of the local unit of Marine Rescue NSW. You can also enjoy the Marriott Park Markets on December in Nowra on 108 Douglas Street. The monthly market at the area known as the 'duck pond' is full of live music, craft and tasty food. Summer at Sussex
Music and Food Events for 'Summer at Sussex' - until - January 26
Come along and enjoy 'Summer at Sussex' with a great range of food, fun and music events over the summer. This event strategy has been designed by the Chamber of Commerce to support the communities of Sussex Inlet, Berrara and Cudmirrah to recover after the many weeks of lockdown. 'Summer at Sussex' will launch on Saturday, December 3 and continue to Wednesday, January 26 and will provide much needed community engagement, create a positive environment, offer some innovative activities for locals and visiting tourists and also support our local hospitality businesses and musicians. One Red Thread: EmpoweRED at Jervis Bay
December 4 - February 13
One Red Thread is a textile art competition with a different theme each year. The inclusion of a 'red thread' and a size restriction of 25cm are the only limitations and artists can interpret the theme as they wish. The 2021 theme, EmpoweRED asked artists to respond to recent events regarding the rise of the 'Me Too' movement. Equality and treatment of women in social and political arenas are highlighted along with the hopes for an equitable and fair society. Toward Abstraction: an exhibition of modern quilts.
December 4 - February 13 - Jervis Bay Maritime Museum
'Toward Abstraction' is a colourful and textural exhibition of modern quilts by 12 Australian artists. The quilts included in the exhibition embody aspects that are typical of the modern quilting genre including improvisation, use of negative space, asymmetry, bold use of colour and exaggerated scale, executed with a fearlessness that epitomises an Australian approach. Walk 'n' Talk Ulladulla

Ulladulla's Walk 'n' Talk has a strong wellbeing and suicide prevention aspect about it. Walkers can meet at 8.45am for a 9am walk at Mollymook Beach and you get a free T-Shirt and a barbecue breakfast. The walks aims to help people in need.
Watch young coast talent
Batehaven, December 5
Twelve finalists will perform at St Bernards Church in Batehaven from 3pm. The annual St Cecilia Youth Music Scholarship supports young musicians from along the South Coast aged 10-18. The scholarships are worth more than $5000. Tickets are $10 at the door; under 19s are free. Final awards will be announced at the concert.

Sticking Together

From the past two years of COVID-19 ups and downs, something special has emerged within a group of ladies who share a passion for making mosaic. The Artful 9 is a group of South Coast ladies who are delighted to announce their latest exhibition - Sticking Together. The exhibition is open for viewing from Saturday, December 11 to Wednesday, December 15. See their amazing work on display at the SoArt Gallery, Princes Highway Narooma between 10am - 4pm. Entry is free. Their mosaics will be available for purchase - perhaps a perfect Christmas gift?
Have you tried orienteering?

Not many sports can claim to be as challenging on the mind as on the body - but orienteering is for all ages, especially kids and families looking for a challenge. The Illawarra Kareelah Orienteers is seeking to expand its membership base by introducing non-orienteers from across the South Coast to the sport. Turn up between 3pm and 4pm at the pavilion, which is located on the west side of the Berry Showground. There will be three courses offered on the day - a 5.6km long course, a 3.4km medium course and a 1.3km short kids course. Invictus Australia's Defence Family Archery Day
There will be a massive archery event happening at Berry Sport and Recreation Centre on Sunday, December 12. It's a joint initiative with Invictus Australia and Archery Australia for the Defence Community (serving, former serving and family members) to join us for a day of Archery. A BBQ lunch is included, along with activities for the kids and special guests from the NRL who will be showcasing Wheelchair rugby, with demonstrations and the chance to have a go!

Australia Day 2022 Duck Derby
Huskisson, January 26
On Australia Day, Wednesday, January 26 join Marine Rescue NSW Jervis Bay Unit at Moona Moona Creek, Huskisson from 9am for a day of family fun and entertainment and of course, the annual Duck Derby. Market Stalls, food stalls and duck races. Bring a picnic rug, bring your family and watch the duck races with the chance to win $500. All proceeds go to Marine Rescue Jervis Bay.
