Staff from the Illawarra Area Health Service's emergency departments were joined by NSW Ambulance, Greater Sydney Area Helicopter Emergency Medical Service and Rural Fire Service recently to take part in simulation exercises at Jerrara Dam.

It's a strong example of collaboration from the various services.
Teams from Milton, Shellharbour, Shoalhaven and Wollongong hospitals came together for a series of interactive exercises that tested their capability to respond to an emergency, disaster or crisis situation.
The simulation included 3D printed organs and a range of scenarios from third degree burns to arterial bleeds.
It proved to be a most successful multidisciplinary simulation exercise.

Meanwhile, the area health service recently marked Antimicrobial Awareness Week.
The health service advised that by not following directions or using antibiotics for the wrong reasons, bacteria can grow and stop the antibiotic from working effectively.
"Follow the directions on your medications and avoid using old prescriptions or left-over medicines," was the advice given by the area health service.
Antimicrobial Awareness Week aims to increase awareness of antimicrobial resistance and reinforce good practices among the general public and health workers.
