Flightdeck created the Women In Aviation Careers Program as part of the federal Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communication's Women in Aviation Initiative.
The programs objectives are to create awareness of the variety of careers available in the aviation industry; provide tangible aviation career guidance to young women aged 15-21 years; inspire young women to consider a career in aviation by sharing the insights of successful, inspirational women working across the aviation industry, with a focus on removing perceived gender and culture barriers; and to support and encourage young women to act to pursue a career in aviation.
To date the Women in Aviation Careers Program has resulted in more than 14,000 face-to-face female role model career inspiration conversations with the fantastic support of industry role models eager to inspire the next generation of women.

Unfortunately a Women in Aviation Careers Schools and Careers Open Day which was scheduled as part of Wings Over Illawarra unfortunately was cancelled due to ongoing COVID-19 restrictions and issues.
Six weeks prior to the planned open day, school excursions were still prohibited due COVID restrictions, so the decision was made to cancel the the event, which was a shame as it was shaping up to be an amazing interactive day with a huge variety of student engagement activities showcasing career options, training and entry pathways and opportunities to engage with industry professionals, training organisations and aviation career advisors.
However, as there was so much excitement and commitment from a large number of organisations a decision was made to host a Women in Aviation Careers booth over the airshow weekend, to inspire and inform young women and their parents about careers in the aviation industry.
And the teams from Global Defence Solutions and Mellori Solutions will be part of the weekend's career booth.
The airshow is expected to welcome 30,000 - 40,000 patrons over the weekend.
