The 21-year-old is putting in the hard yards, particularly in the gym, as he aims to add muscle to his 185-centimetre frame during pre-season.
Matt Dufty's departure has opened the door for someone to wear the Red V's number one jersey, with Sloan in pole position after finishing their 2021 campaign in the role.
However, Ramsey is keen to apply some pressure.
"I've always been a good runner, so I think it's the gym that I need to focus on," Ramsey said.
"Everyone saw last year that I got battled a few times and my body didn't hold up as well as I expected.
"It's a really exciting battle (with Sloan), we obviously both want to play there and it's a friendly competition.
"We both need to put on size and we need to get strength, and we need to study our roles a lot.
"We don't really have a fullback whose been in the game for a while to help us, so we've been picking (assistant coach) Peter Gentle's brains.
"And we'll see where we go from there."
