It's only the second time in more than 85 years that the Currarong Beachfront Cottages have been offered for sale.

The cottages, built in 1938, have been restored over the past decade by heritage architect Robin Graham and wife, Catherine Shields, a former art director at Vogue Australia.

Mr Graham said that the pair had "aimed to retain the retro vibes of relaxed holidays spent beachcombing, fishing and surfing".

Interest so far has been from those interested in using the property for a holiday rental business as well as families seeking out a holiday home for personal use, listing agent Craig McIntosh of The Holidays Collection said.

"Even in a bad [tourism] year these cottages do well," he said.

Though not heritage listed, they have been renovated with an emphasis on retaining period features, a common occurrence in Currarong.

"What you find in Currarong is that when people rebuild they are rebuilding sympathetically with the existing architecture," Mr McIntosh said.

The property consists of Aurora Cottage, Avalon Cottage and Atlantis Cottage, each with views of Currarong Beach.

Aurora is configured for two guests, Avalon for six and Atlantis for three.

The 557 square metre lot has a 46 metre frontage to Piscator Avenue and a 12.2 metre frontage to Walton Way and Dolphin Reserve.

The legal address is 1 Walton Way though the properties are referred to as 2-6 Piscator Avenue by convention.

Located 25 kilometres off the Princes Highway, Currarong has long been a more secluded alternative to locations like Gerroa and Hyams Beach, Mr McIntosh said.

"It's a little bit a destination of its own. There's no through traffic and that's kept tit preserved and quiet but it is certainly getting discovered by people who want to buy into a town that is largely unspoilt from the 1950s," he said.

Along with generating holiday rental income, the cottages have served as a location for fashion shoots and TV shows like the BBC's Coast Australia series.

The property last sold in 2009 for $550,000 according to CoreLogic records.

It's listed for auction on November 28.
