Mental health and the struggles of people - especially through the global COVID pandemic - is a subject at the forefront of concern for many. We could all do with someone checking in with us from time to time, better still we could do with someone who will listen to our response.

Each year the designated day draws attention to that very special question and provides ways to follow up the question by listening to the response of people, encouraging them to seek support and checking-in with them.
In a week that has again been dominated by COVID news, with the Shoalhaven now having more than 15 known cases, and the announcement the city will be remaining in lockdown, it's great to be able to bring you a little bit of good news.
Going into Coles Ulladulla to grab a few essential items, a fellow shopper's basket grazed her arm while walking down one of the aisles.
As Betty put it, "It was one of those things, it happens, it was a pure accident". Like a lot of elderly people Betty suffers from thinning skin and that "gentle brush" led to skin being pulled back and bleeding.
She said the care and concern from the young woman who bumped into her was "amazing". She got Betty help and made sure she was okay, even again checking on her when their paths crossed again in another aisle.
As Betty went to pay for her shopping, one of the store's staff members, who also helped her, approached her.
When Betty inquired if the young woman was still in the store as she'd like to thank her again but was told she had already left. But the young woman had left $20 with the staff member to give to Betty to pay for some of her shopping - a gesture the grateful octogenarian certainly appreciated.
In these tough times it's more important than ever to look after each other and this simple act is a great demonstration of that.
But an act of kindness does not have to mean giving someone money - it could be just a simple act of calling a friend to check on their wellbeing.
Keep it up Shoalhaven - we are all in this together and let's look after each other.
