UOW was ranked among the top 250 universities in the world - and 13th in Australia - in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2022.
The rankings released today showed that UOW's biggest improvement came from increased recognition in the global research reputation survey.
The university also gained a significant improvement in its score from the global teaching reputation survey, while an improvement was also recorded in UOW's score for research income per staff.
UOW Vice-Chancellor Professor Patricia M. Davidson welcomed the rankings result.
"Research and teaching are our core business so I am delighted that we have been able to improve our scores in those key areas," Professor Davidson said.
"Given the many challenges of the past 12 months, the fact we have been able to consolidate our overall ranking in this survey is a testament to the commitment and resilience of the university's staff. I thank them for their dedication to excellence."
The World University Rankings judge research-intensive universities across teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook. The ranking agency uses 13 performance indicators to provide comprehensive and balanced comparisons on more than 1900 global research universities.
In terms of rankings, it's been a good year for UOW.
In April this year, UOW was ranked sixth in the world in the 2021 THE Impact Rankings, which assess universities around the globe against the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) across three broad areas: research, outreach and stewardship.
In June, the university was ranked 23rd in the world in the 2021 THE Young Universities Rankings for the world's top universities aged 50 years and under.
