Despite strong starts to the Barra de la Cruz event, seventh stop on the World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour (CT), neither Culburra Beach Boardrider could continue it in the elimination rounds.
Older brother Owen, fresh off a bronze medal at Tokyo, could only produce waves of 6.67 and 3.20, for a combined score of 9.87, which wasn't enough to overcome Italy's Leonardo Fioravanti (13.37) in heat six.
Mikey didn't fare any better, being pipped by Brazil's Yago Dora 12.80 to 12.10 in heat 12.
This virtually ends Owen's hopes of making the WSL final five, despite Outerknown Tahiti kicking off later this month.
While this elimination marks the end of Mikey's time on the CT, after the 24-year-old, who took out the day's Quiksilver icons of surf super session competition, announced on Tuesday he would be stepping away from the competition after this event.
With the two brothers bowing out, the South Coast's hopes in Mexico fall onto their sister Tyler and Gerroa's Sally Fitzgibbons.
Two-time world champion Wright will take on Sunshine Coast's Isabella Nichols in heat six of the round of 16, while Kiama High School alumna Fitzgibbons has been pitted against Avoca's Macy Callaghan in heat three.
