Albatross Musical Theatre company is pleased to announce it has been given a NSW Government grant through Create NSW to put on three musical theatre workshops in Nowra in August.
The workshops will be conducted by industry professionals and NIDA graduates Emma Hawthorne and Nigel Turner-Carroll.
Organiser for AMTC Merrin Ross OAM said the group is looking forward to hosting this opportunity.
"We are excited to be given the grant to put these workshops on for our local community. Courses such as these are usually held in Sydney or Melbourne," she said.
Emma Hawthorne grew up in the Shoalhaven and has been in many professional stage shows since graduating from NIDA in 2004, including Wicked (GFO), Mamma Mia (Louise Withers), West Side Story (Opera Australia) to name a few. Emma is also a dance teacher and choreographer.
Award winning director Nigel Turner-Carroll has had extensive experience in directing such shows as the Wizard of Oz the Arena Experience, We Will Rock You and Grease the Arena Experience. He has also performed in various plays and musicals such as Saturday Night Fever and West Side Story and has some screen acting credits as well.
Both Emma and Nigel will be co-presenting three workshops;
Musical Theatre, Audition Technique and All Abilities
The Musical Theatre Workshop on Sunday, August 8 is for performers who wish to develop their singing, dancing and acting and to learn how to thread these skills together. This masterclass will give tools and techniques to help become a more confident and diverse performer.
Audition Technique Workshop
Participants in the Audition Technique Workshop on Sunday, August 15 will be challenged with a mock audition and be given feedback to improve technique.
Places at these two full day workshops are limited and by application only. Applicants must complete the on-line form on the AMTC website amtc.org.au and must be 15 years and over.
Applications close on July 27. Both workshops require some preparation prior to get the most out of each course and costs $25 per day.
Workshop for All Abilities
The Workshop for All Abilities on Monday, August 23 and is an inclusive and accessible class for adults living with a disability. The course is for two hours and will teach some basic musical theatre skills and end with a fun performance. Carers are encouraged and welcome to join in. Albatross Musical Theatre Company has been bringing musical theatre to the Shoalhaven for more than 45 years. AMTC will have a COVID Safe Plan in place during the workshops.
