ORRCA [Organisation for the Rescue and Research of Cetaceans in Australia] over the last few weeks has received many calls about young seals hauling out on NSW beaches and rocky areas.
Some areas have experienced large swell and rough seas recently and this could be a reason why seals are coming ashore.
ORRCA, in response, has issued a guideline as to what their volunteers and members of the community are required to do
Where it is safe to do so, ORRCA has licensed members out monitoring these young seals.
ORRCA would like to remind anyone who comes across a seal resting on our shores, please be respectful of the space it needs to rest and move about.
Never block its access to the water. We all must keep well back, at least 40m," the organisation explained.
"These young seals have come ashore to rest and recover and the best thing we humans can do, is to respect their space from a distance."
ORRCA, the only all-volunteer licensed marine mammal rescue group, is working around the clock with the local authorities to ensure the animals that need attention get it!.
