Plans for a home and away season were abandoned in favour of a condensed tournament-style competition.

Rugby Australia had concerns about border restrictions, and planned for Super W to be played before July Tests leading into a now postponed World Cup.

Scrumhalf Garraway admits the move is disappointing but she is relishing the chance to compete at all, with her eyes on a return to a home and away season next year.

"It's definitely the goal. I would love to see the game continue to grow and get back to that format, and have more of a home and away season," Garraway said.

"We do have a competition this year, it's at the forefront of our minds, and that's what we're looking at at the moment.

"The competition is a little bit different this time around. It's a little bit disappointing how the format is, but it's out of our control.

"We'll still be competing as best as we can, and looking to have a more home and away season next year."

The NSW Waratahs and Queensland Reds have been the top two sides in all three Super W sides, and are likely to set the benchmark again but the time off has turned a handful of teams into something of an unknown this season.

The newly-introduced President's XV will be made up of players who missed out on their respective state sides and sevens prospects.

The Melbourne Rebels were in lockdown last year so training in a group was impossible.

RugbyWA have been rebranded as the Western Force.

But Brumbies outside back Talei Qalo Wilson is adamant "it's not going to be a step back at all" as six clubs vie for a national crown, with the ACT bolstered by expanded pathways in Canberra.

"I've been a part of the Super W program for probably four years or so now and there is such a big growth," Qalo Wilson said.

"That [ACT club] 10s comp, I haven't been able to play in it myself but I think that is such a positive thing for our women's game.

"It gives girls a chance to have some more game time, some girls are playing 10s and then they are backing up for XVs as well."

Joining Elleman, Garraway and Wilson in the squad are Kimberly Fyfe, Iris Verebalavu, Niki Paterson, Tayla Stanford, Louise Burrows, Montana Ojeda, Ash Fernandez, Grace Kemp, Michaela Leonard, Emily Sogal, Pearl Rakete, Rebecca Symth, Zali Waihape-Andrews, Susannah Cooke, Ash Bishop, Ella Ryan, Teliya Hetaraka, Apryll Green, Pesi Palu, Halley Derera, Tamsin Barber, Makayla Morris, Claudia Obst and Lillyann Mason-Spice.
