Alice in Wonderland is a production of Albatross Musical Theatre Company's junior program (JAM or Junior Albatross Musical) and is a show that will appeal to young and old alike.
This version is based on the familiar story by Lewis Carroll with new music and lyrics by Janet Yates Vogt and Mark Friedman - it takes you down the rabbit hole with Alice and all your favourite characters.
Alice embraces the magical and the curious, her resilience is tested and she realises that she doesn't need to be in a hurry to grow up.
"The children have been working hard and rehearsing weekly since February and are excited to bring this show to life on stage at the newly refurbished Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre" Director Julia Armstrong said.
The production brings together many young performers from the Shoalhaven area including 11-year-old Gaby Black who is thrilled to have been cast in the role of Alice. This is Gaby's first show with JAM after having been in the vocal ensemble of The Lion King Junior performance that was filmed at the Nowra Anglican College in 2020.
Gaby is enjoying the JAM rehearsals and performing alongside a remarkable group of children that represent many schools across the Shoalhaven.
"I love making new friends from different schools, I love the challenge and I love being able to sing together. My grandmother is also making my costume which is very special," Gaby said.
Gaby's grandmother Vivienne Robinson is creating the iconic Alice blue dress for the performance. Vivienne is an experienced seamstress having taught Textiles and Design across NSW and sewn costumes for other local performers. Vivienne is helping the talented costume team who are busy making all kinds of wonderland character costumes.
AMTC is run by volunteers and relies on many helpers to not only direct and manage the rehearsals but also to create the costumes, sets and props and are grateful for all the talented assistance that has come together to produce this show.
Alice in Wonderland tickets are now on sale for three shows only including Friday, July 2 at 7pm, Saturday, 3 July at 1pm and also Saturday, July 3 at 7pm. Tickets are available through the Box Office at the Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre or phone 4429 5757 or at shoalhavenentertainment.com.au
