Sitting on 765sqm, the six-bedroom, four-bathroom home at 29 Joanne Street, Woonona sold for $2,120,000 in March.
The sellers, Liz Leadbeatter and husband Ryan, a builder, bought the property in 2014 for $510,000.
They set about undertaking a knockdown-rebuild of the property.
"It was a deceased estate, like an old McDonald Jones type home from back in the day," Mrs Leadbeatter said.
"We designed (the new home) with the help of a draughtsman.
"We knew exactly what we wanted to do, we know our style that we like."
Mrs Leadbeatter, who was born in England, described the end result as having a "Hamptons/English theme".
The Hamptons-style approach is inspired by the architecture and decorating of holiday homes in the seaside communities along the eastern beaches of upstate New York's neighbouring Long Island.
A key element to the Hamptons-style look is liberal use of the colour white.
"I love that Hamptons style," Mrs Leadbeatter said.
"I love the huge hallway that we've put in, and it's really open plan. We'll probably do a similar style on our next build."
Mrs Leadbeatter said they had sold their property, as they were relocating to Pottsville, near the NSW/Queensland border.
They're planning to complete a major renovation of their new property.
"We just want to go do it all again really," she said.
"We loved the process of building it (in Woonona), and now it's finished and we're ready to hand it over for someone else to enjoy.
"We do love it there (in Woonona), but we just find ourselves getting itchy feet. We're always ready for the next adventure.
"It was supposed to be our forever home, but we're itchy feet kind of people, we just like to move on. So we'll go build another forever home and give it another crack."
The selling agent, Troy McNeice from Molenaar + McNeice said the property was sold to an Illawarra buyer.
"The house did attract a lot of interest, both locally and from out of the area," he said.
"It was a unique house for Woonona, (in terms) of the size and the quality.
"The result shows how sought-after Woonona is at the moment."
