Volkanovski, a former Warilla-Lake South Gorilla, travelled to Las Vegas to meet Brian Ortega in the octagon, but returned a positive test and fell ill while in the US.
As a result, fans and rugby league television personalities Matthew Johns and Nathan Hindmarsh were among those to offer their voice as he overcomes the illness and returns to Australia.
"So devastated to share that I've tested positive for COVID-19 and my fight is off and will be rescheduled," Volkanovski posted on Twitter
"I tested negative leaving Australia, negative before entering the UFC bubble but my latest test was positive."
It remains unclear when Volkanovski might return to training and fighting.
