That's all set to change. The venue changed hands in late 2018 and for the first time since it was established in 1901 it will be available for luxurious weekend stays for two of 20. It will also still operate as a wedding location and for corporate and private events.
Terrara House has deep historical connections to the three prominent early pioneer families of the Shoalhaven region; the De Mestres, the Mackenzies and the Hyams.
The town of Terrara (original spelling) was the capital of the Shoalhaven district, however in 1870, after two very large floods, the main town was relocated to where Nowra stands today.
The new owners of Terrara House have been working to restore the property to its former grandeur. Work has been led by designer and photographer, Ingrid Weir and renovations include the kitchen, conservatory, the chapel and accommodation which 20 guests.
A converted shed 'Chesters' is also now available for smaller events with a purpose built outdoor oven.
The new owners said they're excited to share the renovations with the community.
"Anyone that has visited Terrara cannot fail to be enchanted by the history and magic of the place - we certainly were," the said.
"More than that though, it instills a sense of pride and responsibility, to cherish the Estates origins and its story, and demands that you add to it.
"We intend to do so, and we intend to do that not only with the blessing and support of the local community, but with their genuine input and participation. We want Terrara to help put Shoalhaven on everyone's list."
If you're after a getaway on 17 acres with a conservatory, tennis court, swimming pool and spa and you've got a few dollars to spare, now could finally be your chance to take a peek at Terrara House.
