By mid afternoon Tuesday (March 23) the Bureau of Meteorology issued another severe weather warning for damaging winds, heavy rainfall, abnormally high tides and damaging surf, with predictions the area could receive between 100 and 150mm of rain and even more on the Far South Coast.

While large parts of the Shoalhaven received consistent rainfall for most of the afternoon, it was nowhere near the severity as predicted.

So far since last Thursday (March 18) Nowra has received 247.5mm of rain, including 35mm in the last 24 hours.

A minor flood warning was issued for St Georges Basin and the Shoalhaven River.

The Shoalhaven River at Shoalhaven Heads opened to the sea on Tuesday afternoon.

After the minor flood warning was issued, Shoalhaven Council used machinery to reduce the berm height and build up of sand at the Heads' opening, allowing additional leeway due to the increased water load coming down the river and allowed the entrance to open naturally.

On Wednesday morning the Shoalhaven River levels at Nowra and Terara continue to fluctuate around the minor flood levels and are expected to continued at such levels for coming days.

Heavy rainfall observed over the Shoalhaven River catchment has caused significant river rises.

Overflow from the Tallowa dam is occurring.

Despite the rainfall easing and no further significant rainfall expected, river levels along the Shoalhaven River at the Nowra Boat Shed and Terara are expected to fluctuate around the minor flood level until Thursday.

The Shoalhaven River at Nowra (AHD) is currently at 2.11 metres and steady.

River levels at Nowra Boat Shed are expected to fluctuate around the the minor flood level (2.3 m) until Thursday.

No observed data is available for the Shoalhaven River at Terara where river levels are expected to fluctuate around the the minor flood level (2.2 m) until Thursday.

A strong wind warning is also still in place for Illawarra Coast, Batemans Coast and Eden Coast.
