The only game to go ahead in the opening round of Illawarra Rugby (with the rest being postponed to May 8), the Shoals prevailed 18-nil, thanks to tries from George Miller and Nicolas Redolatti.
Mark Brandon also added two penalty goals and one conversion in the win at Rugby Park.
Bolstered by the inclusion of former Brumbies star Will Miller, Connor said it was one of the best performances he's seen from a Shoalhaven pack during his time in charge.
"Our strength has always been our backs," Connor said.
"Saturday was a game the backs were never going to win it.
"The forwards benefited from the inclusion of some new faces and a new halfback set us up to win.
"It wasn't pretty football, it was an arm wrestle, but we always had control of the game.
"The boys were patient and we won well in the second half.
"The forwards set up the win for us."
In second grade, Shoals downed Camden 10-nil.
The next match for Connor's troops will be on April 10 against Tech Tahs at Rugby Park.
