An application to extract sand at Sussex Inlet should have been submitted to Shoalhaven City Council and not the NSW Department of Mining, Exploration and Geoscience according to Councillor Patricia White.

The mining company Geoscience Australia PTY LTD, submitted an application to mine minerals to the NSW Department of Mining, Exploration and Geoscience, however, Cr White believes an extraction license should have come to council.
"It's a Western Australian company with shareholders from Canada - they probably haven't even stepped foot in our area," she said.
The original application was revealed to have been withdrawn when NCA NewsWire contacted a management company hired by Geosciences Australia Pty Ltd on Friday.
According to Cr White, sand extraction falls under the Crown Land Management Act and should be dealt with by council.

She implored residents to contact Geosciences Australia Pty Ltd despite their requests for no community submissions.
"When they wake up in Perth this morning they are going to find they have been bombarded with emails over the weekend in relation to this application and [residents'] requests to not pursue any further action concerning licenses whether exploration or extraction," Cr White said.
She also wants council to write to Geoscience Australia Pty Ltd and the NSW Government to confirm Shoalhaven councillors will not support any applications for exploration, extraction or mining in the areas of Cudmirrah, Berrara or Shoalhaven.
"One of the reasons why I'm doing the push so early against these applications is because they can take two to five months to be looked at and approved," she said.
"It's been over two years since the license went in for Minnamurra and Gerroa and it is still yet to be determined. The community has been in angst for so long not knowing what is going to happen.
"Quite frankly if they can't put the right application in, I'm quite concerned about their ability to make these matters progress in a short period of time.
"I don't want the community to be dragged on for years on end thinking if something is or is not going to happen."
Cr White put a notice on Facebook on Friday afternoon for a meeting at Cudmirrah on Saturday afternoon and more than 100 people turned up.
"That's the angst in the community and all of those people, 100 per cent, are against it. I've not found one person who is for any of this," she said.
