THE smile it brought to the face of their friend, facing a fight for his life, was worth the pain three men endured during their epic fundraising walk.

Corey, Rob and Chad set off on a massive walk last Wednesday to support their friend Jason Treweeke who is facing a horrendous battle with cancer.
Only Corey managed to finish the three-day Nowra to Canberra walk but Rob and Chad both deserve to be congratulated for their efforts.
The reasons why Rob and Chad withdrew are too graphic to print but if they continued both could have faced permanent injury.
Thanks to the three walkers more funds flowed to the GoFundMe page and people can still donate here.
Chad got to catch up with Jason on the weekend and was able to present him with a special gift.
A staff member from the Canberra War Memorial heard about the walk and drove over to present Chad with two poppies that had fallen off the memorial's honour wall.
Chad said war memorial staff are able to give fallen poppies to people they think deserve them.
He gave the poppies to Jason and his wife Michelle.
"He was a little taken back," Chad said about giving the poppies to them.
"We were with him for a good couple of hours and he had a few laughs from the stories we told him from the walk."
Chad is just so appreciative of the support they received.
People went out of their way to bring them food and water.
Most importantly more people donated and spread the word about the GoFundMe page.
He said people at the Nerriga and Braidwood Hotels could not do enough to support the cause with food, accommodation and donations.
Chad said it was surprising just how many people knew about the trip.
"A radio station told people if they saw us to wave and toot their horns. I reckon about 1000 people did," he said.
It was definitely a testing walk.
"The first day [Nowra to Nerriga] was more rugged than I expected. I knew there would be hills but not so many," he said.
"I am both physically and mentally fatigued."
Was it all worthwhile in the long run?
"Yes, it was," Chad said.
