ALDI has held a development application for 51 Narang Road, Bomaderry, since 2016.
The application was due to expire in 2021, but works began in the nick of time. The current building on the site is being demolished, and an ALDI Australia spokesperson said construction of the store will begin in February.
"We anticipate the store will open in late 2021," the spokesperson said.
"We will continue to update the community as construction progresses."
The original application included the demolition of the existing building and construction of the store, including business identification signage, 99 car parks and landscaping.
Permission was sought to operate the store between 7am to 10pm, seven days a week, but most Aldi stores typically trade from 8am to 8pm Monday to Sunday.
Loading and unloading will occur 24-hours per day, seven days per week.
The store will compete with the new Bomaderry Woolworths store nearby.
Rumours that Coles had also purchased land in Bomaderry were squashed on Thursday, when a spokesperson said Coles had no plans for an additonal store in the Shoalhaven.
