Terrance John Foster, 36, of Quickmatch Street, Nowra, appeared in Wollongong Bail Court on January 7, via audio-visual link.
He was charged with assault, intimidation and breaching an apprehended violence order over an incident that happened in the Quickmatch Street home last week.
Foster's brother and his brother's girlfriend sometimes stayed at the house as well.
... she was hit in the back by two full stubby-sized beer bottles.
- Police facts tendered to Wollongong bail court
One morning the girlfriend got up and went outside to check on her dog in the backyard.
When she found the dog was not in the yard and the gate was opened, she returned and, with her boyfriend, accused Foster of letting her dog out.
After this, the girlfriend walked away from Foster "when she was hit in the back by two full stubby-sized beer bottles, one hitting her in the lower back and the other in the middle left side of her back", alleged the police facts tendered to the court.
The facts also allege the brother saw Foster throw the bottles.
The brother then confronted Foster, who allegedly picked up a serrated saw and threatened to stab him before throwing the saw at the couple and leaving the house.
Several hours later Foster returned to the house, where police had arrived. According to police, Foster admitted throwing the bottles - which was allegedly recorded on an officer's bodyworn camera.
In Wollongong Bail Court, police prosecutor Tanya Pavlin opposed bail, citing the need to protect the safety of the alleged victims and the risk of Foster committing further serious offences.
She said there were no bail conditions that could mitigate these risks as Foster was living in the same house as the alleged victims.
Solicitor Claire Carpenter argued that Foster was an Indigenous person who would be vulnerable in custody.
She said he could not nominate another place to stay other than the Quickmatch Street address.
Because Foster could not stay at that address to protect the alleged victims, the registrar refused Foster bail and remanded him in custody.
He will appear at Nowra Local Court on Monday January 11.
